A video on YouTube was released on September 22, 2006, and by October 31, 2006, had gained 4,731,838 views. According to the video summary, it was recorded in Sydney. In the video, the main character who is giving out hugs, (identified as "Juan Mann", a pseudonym), walks through the Pitt Street Mall holding up a sign with the words FREE HUGS written on it. Music for the video is provided by Sick Puppies, an Australian band that "Mann" met a year earlier. Shimon Moore, the lead singer of the Sick Puppies who worked at the mall, shot the footage which he later compiled into a video for the song.
Initial distrust of Juan's motivations gives way to a gradual accretion of people willing to be hugged, with other huggers (male and female) helping distribute them. After some time, security guards, then police tell them they must stop, as Mann has not obtained public liability insurance for his actions Mann and his companions then began a petition which reached 10,000 signatures. At that point, the authorities walk away, but not before being hugged by some of the participants.
My A levels starts tomorrow. Yes. Tomorrow. Since the blog is so dead, I will just post a few pictures here.
This is Jo Leen and Bei Shi (in case you don't remember who am I). We had a 'dinner and dance' called Celebration Night.
This is our junior from Catholic High School, PJ! He is Shaun Siau, one of the five who have got 14As for SPM. He is conferred the title "Mr Nice Guy".
That's all for the moment. Need to get back to study.
Harlow people!! (erm.. to those who still visit here which I hope is quite a number :p)
Anyway, there's going to be a party at my house on the 9th of September(Saturday) at 7pm. I was planning to invite all 5s1 classmates but I just might have missed one or two of you guys. Well, that's just a mistake on my part. I sincerely hope you guys can make it.
Alright i have a confession to make. The title for this post is totally irrelavent. But i don't really care. I'm going to babble anyway. So since blue beverly (which if i'm not wrong and if my brain didn't go through an explosion, it should be Bei Shi, am i right?) done an update on Singapore [Insert roar by students in Singapore here] life, I guess it's time for an update by me too.
Australia. The land down under. Blessed enough to be able to live it out here for 3 whole years with tuition fees covered and part of my living costs covered. Man, i really can't ask for more. But how's life in Canberra? The land of the unknown as some people calls it. I love it here. Seriously. It's away from the busy city life and it's really a great place to be in. I still love PJ don't worry. PJ is a whole different thing compared to cities here like Melbourne and Sydney. Been to both but still prefer Canberra.
Yes seriously. Always i leave Canberra for another place, i kinda miss Canberra more and more and really want to come back. It's strange. Like someone from Ipoh goes to KL and feels like going back to Ipoh and never wanna step foot on KL again. Strange. Maybe the world's revolving the other way around now.
But anyways, completed my first semester at uni now. Currently have one more week of holidays before starting on my second semester at uni. Uni's exciting, college is even more exciting. So those of u still in college, enjoy ur life la. Uni not that fun liao. Seriously. And it's 3 years [insert horrifying sound here]. SO....
And to blue beverly (who might be Bei Shi), i might go Singapore when i go back to m'sia at the end of the year. YES YES YES i hear u cheering. Well i cheer even more k. Australia is so far away and u don't get to meet many many many old frens. Unlike u ppl back in M'sia, frens are all around. And Singapore isn't that far away from M'sia. Can go back every weekend if u want to. Australia?! U gotta work ur butts off just to pay for ur airfare. My gosh...Want to go back in June for holidays oso canot...torture...urgh...
So anyways, i really really really really really miss M'sian food. Curry laksa tom yam siew mai char siu pau hokkien mee roti canai roti bom roti pisang roti telur roti sardine roti planta naan garlic naan cheese tandoori chicken nasi kandar nasi lemak hor fun dao jiong sui leung cha char kuey teow har kao curry puff nasi tomato asam laksa MAN....i really miss food at home...urgh...all u get here is beef this beef that...bluek...
So for those in another part of the world, or going to be in another part of the world, UPDATE LA K. Ish...
It's been a long time since mankind has posted here... Anyway, how is the life after A Levels? I am sure they have a lot to talk about their future universities and life.
For me, midyear holiday (one month) has ended two weeks ago. School reopens, and since then the teacher has been reminding us about the preliminary exam which will be held in August. My school is the only school that holds the prelims in August, other schools is after September holidays. It's rather suffering as the teachers need to finish the syllabus before the exam. Jo and me have been burning midnight oil almost everyday, although we know that it's not good for health, we don't have time.
That's all about exam. Very boring topic indeed. Anyway, I know Zhou Hou will be going to the United States on 31 August. I met him twice when I went back last month, and I just realised that he is now my ASEAN friend's classmate. In fact, some of my friends whom I know in Singapore become my secondary school classmates' classmates after going back Malaysia for JPA. The world is very small...
Rong Xiang and Wei Loong have finished their Matrikulasi also. I heard from Rong Xiang that he will be going Malaya University for Medicine. I can't imagine he will be Dr Ng next time. I met him last holiday also, still the same old Rong Xiang, can 'sing' very well...
Oh, by the way, Jo and me are being posted to another hostel since January this year. Haven't had a chance to announce this news. Our hostel name is National University of Singapore High School of Mathematics and Science Residence, or in short, NUS High School Residence. Although it is stated there NUS, it is not in the compound of NUS. NUS is opposite the highway next to NUS High School. But these two schools are very near to each other, of course. Most of the students who studied here will be going to NUS after their Secondary 4 (Singaporeans only have 4 years of Secondary Education) without studying A levels or Diploma. Hope you all don't mix up, and those who are coming to Singapore MUST MUST MUST tell me and Jo!!! We can't wait to see you all.
This is my current hostel. There are 12 floors, and we are staying on the 11th floor. We got the largest room among all the boarder's room, much much bigger that the usual one.
Anyway, that's all for this time. Hope to hear from the others soon.
It's been a year that we've been apart. Much has happened in a year. Time moved on. Life moved on as well. All of us has been through a lot in a year. Ups and Downs. Times of decision making and times of rejoicing victories. Times of stress and times of rejuvinating. A lot has happened. But time moved on, and while some got closer to each other, others drifted further apart. New friends were made. Old friends were put into our brain's archive. A year passed. What have we done?
Some went to Singapore. Some headed off to Korea. Some to A levels. Some to SAM. Some to Form 6. Everyone pursued what they think was best for them. A year has passed. SAM's ended. So for me, it's on to uni life this year. Having been awarded a scholarship by JPA, i'll be heading off to Australia in February. Probably Feb 7 to be exact. That's if my visa and all gets settled before Feb 7. So well, people farewell. It's gonna be another 10 months before i come back to Malaysia again. It's a long farewell. And while some are still pursuing their Pre-U Studies, i'll be strggling with university life. A totally new experience. A totally new place. A foreign one. So what's wrong with me posting about all these? Simple. One reason. Anyone wants to send me off at the airport? ahahah...it'll be good to see some of you all from 5S1 at the airport before i fly away. So 7 February, probably 9pm flight. So 3 hours before i'll be at the airport. =) It'll be good to see some of u there. Any takers?
Hello… this is like my post in a million years… but finally I am able to sit down in front of the computer not needing to worry about anything, other than my homework… I am still working on a tight schedule. Haihz, stretching myself too much… I am so tired… I thank God for the hometown trip. I was able to sleep in to my heart’s content. And enough of my babbling, and start with some updating.
5th to 7th December went on a class trip to catch bugs… we did manage to catch some… see more and played even more…. Conquering our fear of heights to go on the hanging bridge, put faith in one string on the flying fox, picture 54, playing mafia till 3 am, jungle trekking and mosquito feeding, it was a trip worth while. Managed to know some of the classmates better, too bad not everyone can go. Everyone saw the other side of me, the wild side. Never can one imagine I can inflict so much injury on few person in a game of captain ball. Just ask Dickson… he was my primary victim… I guess ppl might not trust me too much anymore, after those rounds of mafia-ing, I hope I didn’t bluff them too much.
8th to 11th December Scrambling to finish the planning for youth camp which is approximately 10 days away. All last minute stuff was done during this period. And also, on the 11 of December, I was baptized. Hahahahahhahaha, happiness… that night, I once again proved that guys really can talk thru the nite if they want to. As done by me and chi yao as I stayed over his place. We talked till 4 something in the morning and it was about time for us to leave for Pangkor.
12th to 14th December I went to a trip to Pangkor with four of my friends, Chi Yao, Enoch, Kevin and Joel. We played taboo in the car, talked and talked, played risk, original uno, and stayed up till 3 am. That was fun. To know more, read this.
14th and 15th December these are the most hectic day of the year. I had worship practice from 5pm to 10 pm on 14th, then 9am to 9pm on the 15th, at the same time, I was working to tie up all ends for the camp program and also the competition. My gosh, sleep is something I crave for so badly.
16,17 December I still dun get rest as I spend the day in church office to do all stuff. Tiring, but very fun.
18th to 21st December I went to the “sound Generation” media camp a.k.a. youth camp. This is one camp worth going. Not just because it’s church, but the content, all about media, gosh so fun. We talked about music, movie but down to it all, the message that it brings thru still resonates in my mind. It was tiring also coz every nite I have to stay up to discuss more stuff regarding the next day. At this time, I would like to thank Rachael and Jared for doing so much. Especially Rach for staying up late together and discuss things out. Hoie Chew, so glad you can make it to the camp, too bad din get to spend some time together. And u r leaving soon. Oh well. Life goes on. Jus dun forget this fren k? The bus ride home was fun, torturing everyone (esp Hoie Chew) with all the lame games collection I have. So fun. Who wants to try? Anyone? The competition was also done with. I competed in the singing competition. Managed to make it to the finals. Wonder if I win anything…
22nd to 24th December this is a family trip to …. Once again…… Pangkor. But this time with 10 other families. We(the teens) played snap, big 2, bluff, and snap, big 2, bluff, and snap, big 2… u get the picture… but we also went island hopping, I went snorkeling (my first time) so fun…. Also we went on banana boat ride… (my first time too) even funner… it was so fun when the fall comes… there was this time when the boat when too fast and all of us lost balance and we fell in the middle of the sea, exhilarating experience… a must try… (nods head wisely) Precaution: injuries may occur during the fall. People tend to pile on one another.
25th to 27th December I spent Christmas away from my friends. But I spent it with my family. The much anticipated rest came. So it was more slumber. But NOOOONONONONOOOOO…. My cousin had to get married during this period. So we were busy helping him out with chores. The wife is some fella from TV3, so she invited frens…. There was this guy I think he is the anchor for nightline, was the host for the night. My mum was so impressed by his voice… and foo chow dinner, my gosh, is another must try in life. No rice, just dishes, but it was a 10 course dinner. Meaning ten dishes including dessert. Ah, so stuffed… but also good sleep… haha…
So there, u have my condensed version of my holidays… still very busy now, trying to finish all my homework and all… need to start adapting to school life again… haihs… Till the next post. Ciaoz. -n-
